What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind. - Jack Handey | | When Listening Feels Good "We live in what I call a dyadic monologue culture," says social researcher Carolyn Schwartz. "I tell you what's bugging me, and you say, 'Gee, that's too bad, let me talk about what's bugging me.' It becomes a ping-pong match. In empathic listening, you simply listen and encourage the other to talk. You'll know when it's working because the conversation will flow, become intimate, you'll feel close to the person, and as a listener you'll start to feel a kind of helper's high. It feels good when someone opens up and tells you what's important to them."
