| Welcome to the first issue of ProHealth's Fibromyalgia ImmuneSupport.com newsletter. Next week, you will receive the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome edition. Our decision to provide two specific FM and CFS newsletters reflects what many of you, our readers, have asked for. Any article that is applicable to both syndromes will be appearing in both newsletters. If you are not interested in receiving both newsletters, simply "unsubscribe" from the one you don't want. ProHealth is constantly looking for ways we can support and empower patients with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. One important way we do this is by providing you with timely, accurate, and relevant information. The second way we support you is by funding FM and CFS research and non-profit patient organizations. To that end, ProHealth has raised and funded more than $2.5 million for research and patient advocacy - making us the largest private CFS and FM funding organization in the world. We are very proud. The third and perhaps most important way is by providing you with very specific, well researched, specialty healthcare products that can make a difference in our struggle for good health. It is therefore with great pleasure that we present new Fibromyalgia research on a new nutraceutical that has garnered significant attention among Fibromyalgia specialists, patients, and even the largest nonprofit FM organizations. The product - "Fibronol" - has been on our radar screen since its developer presented study results at the National Fibromyalgia Association's March 2006 international conference in Southern California. It is worth a look. We have combed through Fibronol's research studies and patient testimonials, and have even tried it ourselves, all in an attempt to determine if the product is as good as the research suggests. I have been taking the product myself for the past five weeks, and the quality of my sleep has improved significantly. It actually seems to work for me! It is so nice to be able to get the deep, restful sleep that I definitely require. ProHealth is excited that you can now purchase Fibronol directly from our store. The downside to the product is that it is fairly expensive. The manufacturer is extremely confident, however, and they have agreed to refund the full purchase price if it doesn't work for you. Although it may work within a week or two, results may take up to six weeks. It is worth a try. Wishing you good health, Rich Carson ProHealth Founder and CFS patient

Stressful Circumstances During Pregnancy May Be Significant Predictor of Fibromyalgia for Females New research in Germany offers strong evidence that females - but not males - may be at added risk for developing Fibromyalgia if, while in the womb, they were exposed to higher than normal levels of the stress hormone cortisol. The researchers' latest study included 93 female FM patients and a control group of 100 healthy female control subjects. Read More

Mayo Finds Strong Indication of Genetic Link in Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Condition Common to Large Majority of FM and CFS Patients Clinical research reports have indicated that as many as 81 percent of the Fibromyalgia (FM) patients studied and 63 percent of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) patients meet the diagnostic criteria for the digestive system disorder called Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Many are unaware of this. The symptoms of IBS include erratic abdominal pain or cramping and changes in bowel function such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, and constipation. Now gastroenterologists at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, report they've found strong indications of a genetic basis for IBS. Fully 70 percent of the 50 diagnosed IBS patients in their study had one or more close family members (parents, siblings, children) with symptoms characteristic of IBS. Read More |

Third Medication Can Be the Charm for Depression
Even after failing to find relief of symptoms following two sequential trials of differently acting antidepressant drugs, clinically depressed outpatients who persevere through a third round still have a 20 percent chance of becoming symptom free with a third try, according to the $35 million national STAR*D trial, just completed. | Why It's Important To Remember Phosphatidyl Serine Scores of research studies since the 1980s have pointed to an important role for the "brain cell nutrient" phosphatidyl serine (pronounced fos-fa-tie-dil see-reen) in support of brain functions such as memory and mental sharpness. Our bodies produce phosphatidyl serine (PS) naturally, but here's what researchers have to say about PS supplementation that might be helpful for the aging brain and people combating "brain fog." Giving of Ourselves to Others Our responsibility for helping others who have chronic pain is, when anyone, anywhere, reaches out their hand for help, we are to be there. Some may be thinking, you've got to be kidding. We're not. When we were in our depths of despair, we desperately wanted someone who cared, but most importantly, we wanted someone who understood what we were going through. For most of us there was no one. We were alone until we found others who were like us. For those who are alone and are reaching out for help, it is up to us to extend our hand and help.
