Fibromyalgia: The Answer Is Blowin' in the Wind
Dr. Kevin White quotes Bob Dylan in asking, "How many times can a man turn his head and pretend that he just doesn't see? These immortalized words have rung true repeatedly throughout the sordid history of humankind. Yet it should seem startling that Dylan's words might apply to physicians, who recite the Hippocratic Oath, and promise to ease pain and suffering and 'do no harm.' Management of Fibromyalgia: What are the Best Treatment Choices?
Due to the lack of a known clear-cut aethiopathogenesis, most therapeutic options have so far rested on an empirical basis. In the last decade, numerous studies with different new, possibly pain-modulating substances, have been undertaken on the basis of neurophysiological research. Several of these studies show promising results, and hopefully this field of research will be expanded and lead to efficacious new drugs for Fibromyalgia.
